EV battery recycling update – with Micheal Hill
As we continue to lead the way in finding a solution to the challenge that is EV battery recycling, we attended the 29th International Congress of Battery Recycling (ICBR 2024) to gather more insights.
We met with global experts to discuss the realities of battery recycling and look at the current challenges we’re facing on a global scale.
What we learnt
It’s a world-wide challenge with no easy solution.
Due to the nature of battery manufacturing (constantly evolving) is it difficult to future proof a successful battery solution. The time and investment needed is not available by the time a recycling solution is developed – the battery composition will have moved on.
To put it simply, the world cannot keep up to speed with the fast-paced changes of battery manufacturing
What SYNETIQ are doing about it
As the UK lead on EV battery solutions, we’re pushing through the re-use route and call upon the industry, the manufacturers and government to come together to address this recycling challenge.
More needs to be done collaboratively, there’s not one answer and impossible for one entity to do alone.
We will report more in our next client newsletter as we work behind the scenes to progress the re-use route and continue to work with the experts to delve into the recycling conundrum.
